Quenching your thirst during the summer months is a must. And having a glass full of ice and a nice cool drink sounds just about the perfect way to make that happen.

What I love about this easy lemonade recipe is that it’s really simple and easy to make and has fresh fruit in it as well. This means that not only am I fueling my body, but I’m also hydrating in a healthy way, too.

I think that once you make this recipe and sit on the comfiest chair in your house and put up your feet, it’s going to become a new favorite of yours, too!

Ingredients needed to make Watermelon Lemonade

Just gather up the short list of ingredients listed below to get started!

Mint Simple Syrup Ingredients:

  • ½ cup of granulated sugar
  • ½ cup of water
  • ¼ cup of tightly packed fresh mint leaves with the stems removed and crushed

Remaining Ingredients:

  • 6 cups of fresh watermelon, cut into chunks
  • ¾ cups of fresh lemon juice (6-8 medium lemons)
  • ½ cup of cold water, (plus more, if needed)
  • ½ cup of fresh mint leaves, tightly packed with stems removed
  • Ice, to serve
  • fresh mint sprigs, for garnish
  • lemon slices, for garnish

How to make lemonade with watermelon chunks:

  1. To prepare the simple syrup, add the sugar, water, and crushed mint to a small saucepan and heat over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely, approximately 2-3 minutes. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and strain to remove mint leaves. Set aside to cool.
  2. Add watermelon chunks, fresh lemon juice, and cold water to a blender and blend until smooth. Pour through a strainer to remove any larger particles. Taste and sweeten with the cooled mint-infused simple syrup, as desired.
  3. Bruise one-half cup fresh mint leaves with fingers to release oils and add to a large glass pitcher or jar. Top with the watermelon mixture and stir to combine. To serve, pour over ice and garnish with a sprig of fresh mint and a slice of lemon. Enjoy!

Do you grow your own mint?

This is a very easy plant to grow but it can take over a bed.  I like to plant it in a large pot by itself.  The aroma is wonderful

Can you make this lemonade in advance?

You can but not too far in advance. I would say a few hours ahead of time would be sufficient. You also need to be certain that before you serve it, give it a stir to mix everything back up again.

Fun Ways to Serve this Watermelon Drink Recipe

While I love to make this for myself, it’s also the perfect drink recipe for gatherings and outdoor summer BBQs. It’s great for sharing with friends and family to show them that drinks like this exist!

You can also serve this during a baby shower or just a fun drink for a brunch with friends, too.

How can you tell if a watermelon is ripe?

I have to add this because it’s important for the flavor of the drink. There are a few ways to tell if a watermelon might be sweet.

First, give it a good ol’ knock. If it sounds hollow, it means it’s ripe and ready. Secondly, yellow spots on the bottom where it’s been sitting are actually internal sugars that have pooled and gathered…I’ve found that watermelons with large yellow spots tend to be sweet and yummy!

I can’t wait to hear what you think about this refreshing lemonade recipe!

    1. I’m a big fresh fruit person and love combining a lot of flavors. This is one of the only drinks I like mint in, it smells so good but I’m just not a minty person. But this one is good.
