Mulled White Wine Recipe

Not only does this wine recipe taste amazing, but itโ€™s perfect for holiday and winter drinking fun, too. Youโ€™ll be amazed at how fast and simple this recipe is to fill up the house with warm smells, too!

Iโ€™ve made this for holiday parties and family gatherings and itโ€™s always a huge hit. The best part? Itโ€™s a simple wine recipe that every person is going to love.

Can you change up the type of wine used in this recipe?

You can but be mindful in doing so. You want to keep it a dry white wine so that the sweetness of the wine doesnโ€™t overpower the flavors and taste.

If you use anything other than a dry wine, the taste may be too strong and sweet overall. And why take that chance and waste what is already the perfect drink?

Ingredients Needed To Make A Mulled White Wine Recipe

  • 1 apple, sliced into rounds
  • 1 orange, sliced into rounds
  • 1 lemon, sliced into rounds
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 3 cardamom pods
  • 2 star anise
  • 1 750 ml. bottle dry white wine such as an oaked chardonnay
  • ยผ c rum
  • ยผ c honey or maple syrup, preferably local
  • 1 orange, juiced

How To Make Mulled White Wine

Combine all ingredients in a medium, non-reactive pot.

Place on medium-low heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer โ€“ be mindful of the heat as you donโ€™t want to cook out the alcohol. Simmer the wine mixture for at least 15 minutes or up to 2 hours.

You can keep warm in a large Crock Pot on a warm setting.

Serve into clear mugs and garnish with more fruit and spices. I love the clear mugs so you can see all the colors of the garnishes.

How do you store leftover mulled wine?

If you have some leftover, donโ€™t get rid of it! This is a chance to store it in the fridge and enjoy it later. Just be sure that you heat it back up to low heat and mix it well before enjoying it again.

Can you eat the fruit in mulled wine?

You can. Just know that fruit soaks up the alcohol quite quickly so itโ€™s going to be quite strong and delicious. Some people prefer to eat the fruit at the end to get an extra boost of alcohol.

Is mulled wine red or white?

You can use either. Youโ€™ll see that I used white wine in this recipe, but you can use a dry red wine, too. Itโ€™s totally up to you on what you want to use. I actually prefer the flavor of a white wine, but I would never turn down a glass of the red wine, either!
