DO YOU SCRAPBOOK?

Sharing is caring!

I would probably answer yes, except for the fact that not one album has been completed in the last 4 years.

Why not?

Time?  Lack of supplies?

No interest?

The answer is probably more of not making it a priority because I do enjoy it.  I want to share a few products Iโ€™m using to make it easier to be a priority.  I still have a room full of supplies though. Plus, just coming back from a fabulous cruise gave me lots of pictures to work with.

At a scrapbook convention one time, I remember a speaker saying (or at least something like this) โ€œDo something โ€“ itโ€™s always better than nothingโ€.  You know that could apply in so many areas of our lives whether itโ€™s organizing our pantry, cleaning out the car, or just calling up an old friend.  Getting your pictures out of the boxes, or printed from you computer or phone is a start.

I was scrapbooking before it was the big business it is today.  Then the scrapbook consisted of black construction type paper, Scotch tape, and photo corners.  We didnโ€™t know about acid free or archival safe back in those days.

Oh how times have changed.  Local scrapbook stores used to be around but they are few and far between.  A company which I worked for a few years ago, Close To My Heart, has been around for 30 years and changing with the times.  Did you know they were the first to have the popular 12โ€ x 12โ€ paper?  Studio J is their digital type, Workshop on the Go (WOTG) is a kit, and Picture My Life is similar to the popular Project Life.  Of course, as I say, I still like the stuff.  All the embellishments, stickers, and bling is a way to really add the wow to a page, which also can be added to any Studio J or Picture My Life Layout also.

Studio J is all done from your own computer.  Sign up for free and thereโ€™s nothing to download.  Pick a layout, drag your pictures, add online embellishments and you are done.  Order and receive basically a 12โ€x 12โ€ photo in about a week.  How easy is that?  You could scrapbook from your laptop while in a waiting room, or at home in your PJs.  This is also a great way if you want an identical page as a gift.

Picture My Life (PML) is a concept of being quick, easy and not too overwhelming since minimal supplies are needed.  PML kits come with Memory (Page) Protectors and cards in 3โ€ x 4โ€ and 4โ€ x 6โ€.  The cards are for journaling (telling your own story) and to act as an embellishment.  You will only need basic supplies such as a paper trimmer, journaling pen and adhesive.  If you like to mat any of your pictures,  coordinating  cardstock is something to have on hand also.

WOTG is a kit with paper which is printed on both sides, cardstock, a stamp set, embellishments and a guide for ideas.   Along with layout ideas, the guide also tells you what color stamp pads you will need, and suggestions on using a Cricut Cartridge.

Not all pictures have to go onto a scrapbook page.  There are Memory Protectors which hold 4โ€ x 6โ€ pictures available.

Iโ€™ve included affiliate links to Amazon for you to find some products easier.  I may receive a small commission, but the price is the same for you.  It just helps my blog out.

  1. You are so good at scrapbooking. Thanks for sharing these pages. I hear you about not finishing 1 complete scrapbook. I think that would be me :).

  2. I love the idea of scrapbooking, but I’m so scatterbrained…the furthest I’ve gotten is buying the supplies for scrapbooks for each of my two babies – who are now 8 and 10. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I love what you did with yours!

  3. I save so many things but never knew the art of scrap booking it may be something I need to look into as a keepsake thanks for sharing

    1. As I used to tell people when I taught a class, you are making this for yourself. Make it pleasing to your eyes. There are so many helpful ideas you can find. Once, I literally took an idea book and started copying pages, the layout and where to place embellishments, when I wanted to complete an album in a hurry. Please don’t hesitate to ask questions. Get back into it and enjoy.

  4. I really love this idea. I have so many photos on my computer that I keep saying I’m going to do something with, but they are still sitting there. I just had twin grandbabies and I am wanting to start a great scrapbook of their first three months. I will definitely be checking it out!

    1. I hope you do try something. Even if you just get the pics printed and into albums, that’s a start. It’s a shame how many pictures will never be seen because they are stored on computers. Plus if you do digital pages, you can get 2 of each page printed so they can each have their own special scrapbook from you.

  5. I really want to get into scrapbooking but I never seem to have anytime! When I graduated college 9 months ago (seems like yesterday) I told myself I’d do a scrapbook of my 4 years in college but still haven’t done it! I really want to soon <3

    1. You should try digital. You won’t have to buy all the stuff and you can do it on the go. Start with one special event, maybe graduation, and go from there. Don’t think about having to do all 4 years, that is too overwhelming. Hope you try it.

  6. I am totally not a scrapbooker, but it is definitely something I want to get into one of these days. Your pages look beautiful! Also, I love the quote you shared about just doing something, it is definitely applicable in so many areas of life.

  7. Omg gotta say you are pretty good at scrapbooking!!! Scrapbooking is something I love to do and wish I had more time to spend on!

  8. I used to scrapbook all of the time before I had my children and I spent a fortune doing it. I am glad I did though because my boys love to look through my books now over and over!

  9. I used to scrapbook, back in highschool, lol. A lady I babysat for sold the supplies. That hobby didn’t last too long for me though.

  10. I’m popping in from the Blogtalk group share. I’ve never scrap booked but have been getting into the paper crafts lately – more creative painting, stamping and staining. With all of our travels – this might just be the thing to get me going….thanks for the information.

  11. That looks like a lot of fun! I am interested in scrapbooking and you make it look so easy. I need to keep my eye out for that kit.

  12. I think since most of things are now online, scrapbooks became less popular. Nothing documents memories like a scrapbook as it leaves a lot of room to creativity and if well preserve it last longer as online mementos are capable of being corrupted.

  13. I love your scrap pages!! I haven’t done scrapping in forever, but I have ton of products. I’m more into digital scrapping, I’ve hoard so many things, it’s not even funny.

    1. We recently moved into a smaller place so a lot of my “stuff” has got to go. I’m donating it to a local Salvation Army group who holds 3 crops a year to raise money for Angel Tree. It feels good doing that.

  14. I really like your quote about do something, it’s better than nothing. That is so true with me — I’m a bit of a perfectionist and I often don’t do something because it won’t be perfect. I need to jump in and just do something!

  15. Well, I’d say if you have plenty of time on your hands that would be the thing to do or if you like to do things in stages. thanks for sharing. Very nice indeed.

  16. Your scrapbook pages look so pretty, I have to admit though, like you, I leave scrapbooks uncompleted. I began one to document my sons life and give it to him when he’s 21. He’s now on the verge of turning 2 and I haven’t even completed his first year in it yet. I need to get to it!

    1. That’s one reason I’m going to use some digital along with the Picture My Life. Also, the page protectors are great to just put in a lot of pictures without having to add a lot of embellishments. And the ones for just putting the pictures in. At least they will be in an album. Hope you try it.

  17. I used to scrapbook, but it got too time consuming. My oldest son has the prettiest album and then I stopped doing it…lol. My other kids ask me why they don’t have an album like his.

    1. That’s one of the good things about digital, make one page and get copies of it. Luckily I only have 1 son, but he still doesn’t have as many as I would like. The digital and Picture My Life is lots less time consuming.

  18. Oh, you are making me miss scrapbooking! I know I’ll get back to it eventually. I found that a monthly kit club got me excited about using new products and kept me going. I just got burned out working as a layout designer for one of the paper companies. I got lots of pages done but the deadlines stressed me out after a while. I still have all my layouts on my blog if you need some inspiration.

    1. I understand. That’s almost how I am on getting ready for a TV spot or magazine article. Doing the Picture My Life and going digital is helping me. Of course I still have a whole full of “stuff” which is mostly getting donated to the Salvation Army. They hold 3 crops a year as a fundraiser for Angel Tree.

  19. I love to scrapbook and I love that you wrote with your handwriting! There is not much sweeter than finding a note someone in my past wrote and recognizing their hand writing. So special!

    1. Journaling in my own writing is something I really have to make myself do but I know now how much I love having old recipes hand-written by my Mom and other family members who have passed away. Enjoy your scrapbooking.

  20. Cute! I love this; I used to scrapbook but don’t have much time these days. Everything is digital now and I kinda feel sad because you can’t just sit down and flip through a scrapbook anymore. I should give this a try.

    1. If you do digital pages, get them printed. That’s what I feel about most of the pictures I have too. I have to edit so many pictures to delete them so I’m not printing thousands of pictures.
