A Family Photo Shoot in Paris at the Eiffel Tower

My family recently took a bucket list trip through five countries in Europe.  From the beginning of planning this trip, a family photo shoot in Paris at the Eiffel Tower was a must for me.  It had been way too long since a professional family shoot had been done, and not a better place than Paris.

Planning this trip was a bit overwhelming as we did 17 days which included, as the movie goes, planes, trains, and automobiles.  I did learn a lot so hopefully as we begin plans for a trip to Italy next year, maybe it will be a bit easier.

The two main things for planning this were finding a photographer and what we would wear. 

The photographer:

I did contact several online who I watched on Instagram and read about in Paris FaceBook Groups to begin.  The prices can vary by several hundred dollars but all I contacted did respond.

You do have to take a leap of faith when you are asked to send money to someone you don’t know, but  that’s where the recommendations and referrals can come in handy.  I was in contact with Rami by email and WhatsApp, just remember there is a time difference.  We actually paid him in cash on the day of the shoot so I made a trip to our bank before we left.

We were clear with each other on expectations of the photos.  Many of the photos I would see were very whimsical, so I knew that wasn’t us.  We could have done a change of clothes, but that was just more to pack.  

The pricing is usually based on length of shoot and number of photos you receive. We had 45 minutes with 35 edited photos.  I didn’t think that sounded like a long time, but he had done some many in the area, he knew where to shoot from and where to position us.  We did run maybe a bit closer to an hour, but there wasn’t an additional charge.

We saw many photographers out that morning near the Eiffel Tower taking photos, from brides, to kids, to families of all ages.

I got 47 photos back in about 10 days and I could pick 35 of them he would edit and return within 48 hours, or I had the option of paying an additional $50 for all the photos, so I chose that.  It was too hard to choose.

Our outfits:

I knew I wanted black, white and blue in the photos so that was pretty easy.  Jeans and shirts for the guys, and me in black lace.  I was trying to channel some Audrey Hepburn by wearing black and strands of pearls.  I once had imagined more formal wear and setting, but that was quickly struck down, mainly due to having to pack all these extra clothes.

Sunglasses were added for a change, and I wished we had brought caps for the guys, since that’s really a normal look for them.  I had read that you wouldn’t see many ball caps in London and Paris, but we did see plenty. 

I wanted black dressy heels, which I don’t have since I don’t wear high heels much.  So off to the thrift store.  I found the ones I wore for $9 and they were very uncomfortable.  I knew I could stand them for a while, but would never wear again, so I left them on the river bank hoping someone else might enjoy them.  I hope someone found them and loved them.

I would recommend this to everyone, whether you might be traveling solo, as a couple, or a family.  It was a highlight of our trip, as the memories of the trip and shoot will now forever be documented.

Could you pick a better setting for photos?  I think not.

After the photo shoot, we made our visit to the Eiffel Tower, going to the Summit.

Visiting the Eiffel Tower was a non-negotiable landmark to visit and go to the top.  We were fortunate enough to find a hotel within a short walking distance of it, plus a view.  We did have to look out the window and peer to the right, but we could see it.  It was visible during the day, and especially at night when it sparkled.

Paris is someplace I would be glad to return to.
