Summer Fruit Kabobs
Every time that summer rolls around, my mouth literally starts watering for fresh fruit. I โpatientlyโ wait for the fruit to ripen up perfectly so I can enjoy every juicy bite.
What Iโve found is that I really just love all flavors of fruit so I have a hard time picking my favorite. This is why Iโm pretty obsessed with these fresh fruit kabobs because they give me a ton of flavors with every bite.
If youโre ready to treat your tastebuds with a sweet and healthy dessert, you canโt go wrong with fresh fruit on a stick! (plus, itโs always fun to eat food off of skewers!)
How do you keep fruit from turning brown once you cut it?
Great question and a common issue. The easiest way to combat this is to cut the fruit right before youโre ready to eat it. The reason that the fruit turns brown is that the air is hitting it and creating that reaction.
If you prep the fruit ahead of time, thereโs a good chance that the coloring of the fruit is going to change. And while it wonโt change the flavor, itโs not the most appealing thing to look at.
You can always squeeze a bit of lemon juice on the fruit to see if that can stop the coloring from occurring. This works well with apple slices for sure.
Ingredients needed to make Fruit Kabobs
- 1 cantaloupe, sliced thin then cut into shapes
- 1 personal watermelon, sliced thin then cut into shapes
- 1-pint strawberries, cut to the desired shape
- 1-pint blueberries
- Any other favorite fruit
- Wooden skewers
- Small cookie cutters, various shapes
You can pick and choose various cookie cutters and have fun with the designs.
Do you want your kids to eat more fruit? Let them pick out their favorite shapes and help put them together. I bet they will eat more, and some of the fruit might not even make it to the skewer.
How to Prepare Fruit Skewers
Rinse and pat dry all fruit
Slice watermelon and cantaloupe into thin slices then use cookie cutters to create desired shapes
Cut strawberries into quarters or halves about the same size as your cookie cutter shapes
Begin loading the skewer with fruits, alternating as you go โ it works best if you have a blueberry on the very bottom to keep everything else from slipping
Serve and enjoy!
