Sparkling Blackberry Basil Cocktail

I love this drink recipe so much. I never knew that basil and blackberry were such a perfect match. Every time I make this delicious recipe, Iโ€™m always amazed at the flavor and taste and wonder what took me so long to make it again in the first place.

If youโ€™re looking for a refreshing beverage, this is the one you need. I love that the blackberries and the honey add for such a natural sweetness as well as it really makes the natural flavorings stand out, too.

All you need to get started is found below!

Ingredients needed to make Sparkling Basil Cocktail

  • 8-10 large fresh or frozen blackberries
  • 3 T. fresh basil, torn
  • ยผ c. honey, preferably local
  • ยผ c. water
  • 4 oz. Elderflower liqueur (optional)
  • 1 750 ml bottle Prosecco, chilled

Garnish: (optional)

  • Fresh blackberries
  • Sprigs of fresh basil

If you like a heavier blackberry taste, use a few more blackberries.

How to make Sparkling Blackberry Basil Cocktail

  1. Add the blackberries, basil, honey, and water to a small saucepan set over medium heat. Simmer, stirring occasionally, until mixture is heated through and starts to thicken, approximately 4-5 minutes. Gently press on blackberries while heating to release juices.
  2. Remove from heat and strain mixture through a fine-mesh strainer to remove solids. Reserve remaining liquid and set aside to cool.
  3. If using, divide the Elderflower liqueur among four champagne flutes, along with a drizzle of the blackberry simple syrup. Finish by topping off each glass with some chilled Prosecco.
  4. Garnish each glass with 2-3 fresh blackberries and a sprig of fresh basil, if desired, before serving. Enjoy!

How do you clean blackberries before eating them?

No one wants to eat dirty fruit, no one! So itโ€™s important that if youโ€™re going to use fresh berries, that you take the time to wash them as well.

I recommend putting them in a strainer and then running water over the top. Then you can just shake off the water and get them as dry as possible before adding to your drink.

Can I use maple syrup instead of honey?

You can. I just like to use honey because I can get it quickly locally but if you want to use maple syrup or any other type of sweetener, go for it.

Itโ€™s really up to you on what you sweeten it with so make it match with what you like.

I canโ€™t wait to hear what you think of this simple blackberry cocktail recipe. Itโ€™s a delicious and refreshing drink that is perfect for relaxing at the end of the day!
