Simple Layered Ice Cream Dessert
With all of the hustle and bustle of any holiday season, who couldnโt use a simple layered ice cream dessert which can be made ahead of time? Or plan for a special dinner dessert, this is great to try.
My Simple Layered Ice Cream Dessert Ingredients
As with any recipe, start with good ingredients โ Mayfield Ice Cream, Oreos, and Smuckerโs Ice Cream Toppings.
- 1.5 quart Vanilla Ice Cream, my favorite is Mayfield
15 Oreos โ finely crushed, this makes approximately 1 1/2 C
1 bottle, 7.25 oz Smuckers Chocolate Fudge Magic Shell
Lots of Layers of Goodness
Begin by lining a loaf pan with plastic wrap. This will make it easier to remove your dessert from the pan.
Mine was 8ยฝx4ยฝx2ยฝโ which is a standard size
Remember you are making this in reverse for the finished dessert.
Layer 1
Sprinkle crushed Oreos to cover bottom. This will be the top of your dessert.
Layer 2
Spread softened ice cream about 1/2โณ โ 3/4โณ
Layer 3
Thin layer of Magic Shell
Layer 4
Thin layer of crushed Oreos
Layer 5, 6, 7
Repeat layers 2 โ 4 of ice cream, Magic Shell and crushed Oreos
Layer 8
Spread softened ice cream about 1/2โณ โ 3/4โณ to fill the pan
Use a knife or other straight edge to level the top.
Cover with plastic wrap
Freeze at least 2 hours before serving making sure it is level in the freezer
To release, remove the top layer plastic wrap and lift out from the pan.
Invert onto chilled platter
This is the time if you want to decorate it or just add whipped cream to add a little more richness to your dessert.
Serve immediately or place back into freezer until time to serve
For the holidays, add sprinkles or crushed peppermints for a festive color.
Cherries or strawberries are always good with chocolate
LAYER ONE
LAYER TWO
LAYER THREE
Add crushed Oreos, repeat, ending with ice cream
A Few More Hints and Ideas
Use any ice cream topping or sauce, such as caramel in between the layers.
Add chopped nuts.
Use any ice cream flavor, or even more than one.
If you want to use Magic Shell only, and no Oreos, you will need 2 bottles.
Crushing Oreos is easier in a food processer, but can also be done by placing them in a zip-loc bag and using a rolling pin to crush.
If its, being a bit stubborn, use a warm, wet towel and wrap around the pan for about 10 โ 15 seconds and this should do the trick.
If you arenโt serving this within 24 hours, add another layer of plastic wrap around the entire pan.
For storage of more than a few days, I add a layer of aluminum foil also.
The first layer in your pan will be the top of your dessert.
My choice for ice cream is always Mayfields but if this isnโt available in your area, just use your favorite.
Smuckerโs Ice Cream Toppings have a variety of flavors
Use the whole Oreo for crushing.
Amounts of toppings and ice cream could vary by the size of pan you use. Mine was 8ยฝx4ยฝx2ยฝโ.
And did I mention you can make this ahead of time? Make a few of these in a variety of flavors and have in your freezer? Not only do these come in handy at home, but seems like there are always lunches or pot lucks in which you are asked to bring a dish. Consider using a disposable loaf pan if you are taking it to a dinner.
Last minute guests โ bring one of these out and you will be the hostess with the mostess.
Banana Split Dessert
Add in layers of bananas, chocolate syrup and pineapple topping. Or what are your favorite toppings? Make this your own with them.
Growing up we had โIce Milkโ since it was cheaper but Mom always had this and Hersheyโs Chocolate Syrup on hand. If we were lucky, we would have bananas, pineapple topping and nuts. Such a simpler time. This was a real treat and special for us, not like running to your favorite ice cream store now.

Who remembers Viennetta? They aren't around so just make your own.
