What is the difference between a cupcake and a muffin?

Cupcakes are more of a dessert while muffins can actually be eaten any time. However, most people prefer to enjoy muffins during the morning hours or with brunch.

Cupcakes are also sweeter in flavor and tend to be frosted as well. Muffins might have a light dusting or a powder of sugar but typically arenโ€™t top with a thick frosting of any kind.
