A New Journey Begins For Me

Sharing is caring!

As they say, your life can change in a moment’s notice.  Mine did.  And now a new journey begins for me.  A long road ahead.journeyRewind to almost two weeks ago, I came home from my annual  Haven Conference.  A time for fun, food, and learning about blogging and DIY.  Came home with new power tools, lots of contacts, and a renewed spirit for my blog.  And it’s also a time I get to hang out with my cousin from Pennsylvania, and this year was extra fun with her 16 year old budding DIYer.

A long list of to do, new ideas, and projects to work on.

Then two days later my routine mammogram.  Well, nothing routine this time.

After more testing, the “C” word was used.  More than likely I had breast cancer.

So the endless waiting and doctor appointments begin.

Almost a week until I could get a biopsy, then a couple more days until it was confirmed.  Yes – I have breast cancer.  Words I was hoping I would never hear.

Then a couple more days to get back to talk to the surgeon about my options.

Now onto genetic testing and a plastic surgeon next week.

A mastectomy will be done whether on just the left or a double. Then, will there be reconstruction?  I’ve always teased I wanted big boobs but not really either.

Although I’ve been told it’s non-invasive and not in my lymph nodes, I still worry. I’m sure the sleepless nights will eventually get easier.

I do have to be thankful in ways though. The day I was told I had cancer I read about a mother discovering her 2 year old had cancer.  I have to be happy it’s me and not my child.

Telling my son wasn’t easy. He’s an adult so he can understand what’s going on but I still hate he has to go through this also.

So a new journey begins.

  1. I’m so sorry, Rosemary! I’ll be praying. The good thing is that they’ve come such a long way with treatment options and that’s great news that it’s not in your lymph nodes! My mother in-law had it several years ago and is cured now, as I know you will be too! Please let me know if there’s anything I can do.

  5. Rosemary, I’m sorry you have to go thru this. It is a journey. I am a bc survivor. Mine was also negative nodes. I did chemo and rads, that’s what we did then. That was almost 16 years ago. I want to tell you to wipe away all the ideas that you think your journey will be. It’s doable. It is no picnic, but you will get thru it. You will actually have good days. Be prepared to be overwhelmed and humbled by the generosity of not only your family and friends, but the people taking care of you in your doctors offices and the hospital. They are good at their job, compassionate and most are called to their profession. You can do this. You can do this.
