Creamy and Delicious Seafood Mac & Cheese

It’s no secret that macaroni and cheese is a widely popular side dish. And it just makes sense. The combination of the cheese and noodles is literally a delicious bite. 

But adding in crab and shrimp? It takes this simple recipe to a whole new level of flavor. Not only does it make it an entire meal in itself but it adds so much richness, too!

Use this easy mac & cheese recipe as the perfect side dish or a rich and flavorful meal to fill your bowl full of goodness. 

The best part about macaroni? You can eat it however and whenever you want! 

Ingredients needed to make Creamy Seafood Mac & Cheese

  • 2 cups dry macaroni pasta 
  • 6 oz crab meat 
  • 8 oz shrimp – cooked, peeled, deveined, tail off 
  • 8 oz sour cream 
  • 4 tablespoons butter 
  • 2 tablespoons flour 
  • 1 yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 can evaporated milk 
  • 8 oz white cheddar, shredded 
  • 8 oz mozzarella, shredded 
  • ¼ cup panko breadcrumbs 
  • 1 teaspoon each paprika, salt, pepper, dry parsley 

How To Make Seafood Macaroni Cheese Recipe

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and prepare a 13×9 baking dish with nonstick spray.

Cook macaroni, drain, and place in a large bowl.

Mix in sour cream, crab, and cooked shrimp until well combined.

In a saucepan cook onion in butter until tender.

Stir in flour and evaporated milk.

Add white cheddar and stir until melted.

Pour over macaroni mixture and stir. 

 

Stir in seasonings and pour into the baking dish.

Top with mozzarella and panko breadcrumbs.

Top with a sprinkle of dry parsley.

Bake uncovered 30 minutes.

What is the best way to reheat leftover macaroni?

If you’re lucky enough to have mac and cheese remaining, this just means that you’ll get to enjoy it all over again. The easiest way to reheat leftover mac & cheese is to put it in a microwave-safe bowl and heat it for a until warm. 

I like to add a tad bit more butter and milk or heavy cream so that it helps to moisturize the noodles. 

Can you add other types of seafood to this recipe?

You bet! Crab and shrimp are the most common, but you can add lobster bites to them as well. You can literally add in anything that you want to so have fun and make it your own. 

How do you know when macaroni is done baking in the oven?

Real Simple – since the macaroni is already cooked, you are basically just heating all the other ingredients and melting the cheese.

Once the cheese starts bubbling and the top turns golden brown, this is your clue that the dish is done and ready to be taken out of the oven. It will be warmed and baked to gooey perfection!
