The other really great aspect about making salsa at home is that you can adjust the spice also. Some days I like a lot of heat โ but other times, Iโm going more for that fresh flavor and taste. When I make it at home, I have complete control over that. Most of the time I make two batches, one for me with no jalepeno peppers or pepper flakes. My guys likes the heat to it.
Ingredients to make Salsa
- 2 bunches of cilantro
- 8-10 Roma or on-the-vine tomatoes
- 1 red onion
- 2 tablespoons garlic, minced
- 2 large jalapeno peppers
- 2 tablespoons red pepper flakes
- Salt & pepper to taste
- ยผ cup lemon juice
- ยผ cup lime juice
How to make Homemade Salsa
Cut about an inch off the bottom of the cilantro bunches
Cut the tomatoes in half
Cut the jalapenos in half and remove the seeds or keep them in depending on your heat preference
Cut the onion into quarters
Place the cilantro in a food processor
Add tomatoes, onion, garlic, jalapeno, lemon juice, and lime juice
Pulse until well blended **If you prefer a more chunky, just pulse a couple times until you see large chunks

In just a few easy steps, you will have fresh salsa.

How to store salsa in the fridge
Once you make this easy salsa recipe, you need to be certain that youโre storing it in the fridge. It needs to be kept cold as that will keep the ingredients fresh and also give the flavor a nice boost.
I donโt like my salsa super cold, so I will microwave just a small portion for maybe 8 seconds and this will take the chill off.
Does salsa get better as it sits?
In my opinion, the second day of eating salsa is my favorite. Itโs been an amount of time that works well for the salsa to really mesh together and have an amazing flavor, too.
What food items do salsa pair with?
Salsa can be used as a topping for so many toppings! Itโs even great on hot dogs, hamburgers, and a toasted slice of bread. If youโre craving it, pair it up with foods and see what youโd like.
Tips for making Salsa
Even though this recipe is super simple to do, there are a few things to keep in mind.
- If you donโt have Roma tomatoes, you can use other types of tomatoes as well.
- Make certain that you add in fresh cilantro as that really brings out the flavor!
- If you donโt have a food processor, you can cut all the ingredients up by hand โ it will just take longer but totally doable!
Check out the small food processor below. You may have to do this recipe in batches, but you will be hooked after using it.
Have fun making this simple salsa recipe! Itโs the perfect refreshing flavor for spring and summer! (and if you can use garden veggies, the taste will be even better!)
