Cranberry-Pear Sauce with Rosemary and Ginger

I can promise you that this is going to be a hit this holiday season! It’s fast and doesn’t have any refined sugar in it at all. It’s naturally sweetened because of the added pears and a tiny bit of added maple syrup.

After you make this and try it, you’ll never be purchasing store bought cranberry sauce ever again. It’s really that good!

How long does it take cranberries to cook on the stovetop?

As long as you’re stirring and keeping them at a constant heat, the cranberries should cook and burst open in about 5 minutes of time.

Once they burst open, they’ll need to cook for a few more minutes before they’re easy to mash.

What if this cranberry sauce is too chunky?

If you don’t like the texture, just add it to a food processor and pulse it a few times to make it more smooth.

The great part about this cranberry sauce is that it’s such a flavorful recipe! You can literally eat this as it is or mix it with your other holiday dishes.

Homemade Cranberry Sauce

Gather up the simple ingredients and get started! Once you make it and let it cool, you’ll love every single bite!

  • 12 oz. fresh cranberries
  • 2 medium ripe pears, peeled and diced
  • 2 t. fresh ginger, peeled and grated
  • 3 T. fresh rosemary leaves, finely diced
  • 3 T. real maple syrup
  • ¾ c. water
  • Sea salt, to taste

How to make Cranberry Sauce For The Holidays

  1. Add cranberries, pear, ginger, rosemary leaves, maple syrup, and water to a medium saucepan. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally until the mixture starts to boil and the cranberries burst open approximately 5 minutes.
  2. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for another 5-10 minutes. While cooking, mash the cranberries and pears with a wooden spoon. Season with a pinch of sea salt and stir to combine.
  3. Remove from heat and allow the sauce to cool for 15-20 minutes before checking the consistency. Add a little water if the sauce is too thick. Taste and add more maple syrup for a sweeter sauce, if desired.
  4. Optional: For a smoother sauce, blend one-half of the cranberry mixture in a food processor or blender until smooth. Stir puree back into the remaining sauce before serving.
  5. Serve immediately or chill before serving.

I have really loved using Maple Syrup – real that is – in recipes for sweetening.  Adds just a little extra flavor.

How do I store Homemade Cranberry Sauce?

Store in an airtight containter, I usually use a Mason jar and it will keep 10 – 14 days.  More than long enough for all the leftovers.

It can even been frozen.  Again I usually use a Mason jar for this and it will freeze for a couple of months, which is long enough to get you through New Years.

  • Just make sure it is cooled completely before freezing.
  • Thaw at room temperature to prevent the glass from breaking.
  • Do not refreeze and use within 10 – 14 days.

See how simple this recipe is? It just might be the easiest recipe that you’ll make all holiday season!
