Sharing is caring!

Biltmore in the Spring is a thing of beauty. Although this impressive estate is a wonder any time of year, the magic really happens in the spring. Its massive gardens explode with blooms, filling the air with sweet scents. The weather is perfect for strolling along during self-guided tours, and this year, even more color and wonder can be found at the Chihuly exhibit.

From the beautiful gardens to the impressive blown-glass artistry of Chihuly, the famous winery, and more, Biltmore in the spring is something no visitor to the area will ever forget, and its location in Asheville, North Carolina makes it an easy trip for those in the South, Midwest, and Northeast. Of course, even if you live on the West Coast, it’s still worth the plane ride!

Biltmore in the Spring

Although the house and grounds were constructed 135 years ago, they’re still as beautiful today as they were all those years ago. Lovingly maintained by craftsmen and horticulturalists, both the home and the grounds are a snapshot of history come to life, and during the spring, that life is more vibrant than any other time of year.

Many shades of tulips and other spring flowers were in full bloom.  We saw these being planted during our visit at Christmas.

It’s amazing how almost every inch of the Estate, was meticulously planned – way back in the beginning.

The Biltmore Gardens

Spring is the best time to see the impressive gardens at The Biltmore Estate. Self-guided tours offer visitors the opportunity to stroll through acres and acres of beautiful garden scenery designed by America’s foremost landscape architect, Frederick Law Olmstead. See an explosion of blooms and newly-sprouted greenery at the Walled Garden, the glass-ceilinged Conservatory, the Italian Garden, and the gorgeous trees in America’s first managed forest. And that’s just the beginning. Visitors can spend an entire day (or trip) simply taking in the gardens.

The Conservatory is just beautiful and is full of plants to fit the season.  Christmas was full of décor and poinsettias, but with Spring, orchids were the featured plant.

More Places for A Colorful Visit

We were just a bit early to find a lot of the flowering rhododendron and azalea bushes in bloom.  Many of these plants and bushes do bloom at a different time for each season, but it can make for a beautiful drive a little later in the Spring.

Chihuly at Biltmore

Chihuly’s unique blown-glass artistry, with its vibrant colors and organic movement, make it the perfect addition to Biltmore in the spring. Visitors can explore a specially curated collection of Dale Chihuly’s work at the intimate gallery at Amherst at Deerpark. This world-renowned glasswork is bursting with color and movement – just like the gardens at the estate – and viewing them is just as awe-inspiring.

A colorful ceiling and a “boat” display are usually found at all exhibits.

Biltmore Winery

While at The Biltmore, visitors should be sure to visit the estate’s winery, as well. The winery is world famous for its wonderful reds, whites, and roses, and their knowledgeable hosts make both tasting options a joy. Visitors can enjoy two distinct wine experiences. First, they can savor wine by the glass along with light snacks at the wine bar. They can also enjoy a complimentary wine-tasting experience at the winery’s indoor Wine Tasting Room.

The winery is open seven days a week from 12 PM to 7 PM. Hours are subject to change, however.

Lines can get very long for the free wine tasting, especially later in the afternoon and on weekends.

Lodging

If visitors are planning an extended visit to Biltmore in the spring, there are three lodging options available to them – The Village Hotel, The Inn, and the Cottages, all of which provide cozy, comfortable, and well-appointed amenities for guests.

There seemed to be some ground work happening in front as there wasn’t a display or fountains as you normally see.

If you can’t secure lodging on the grounds of The Biltmore, here’s where we stayed last year.  CAMBRIA DOWNTOWN ASHEVILLE

I hope they have the winter cabanas back next year for a unique dining experience.

It’s a great hotel with a great location to walk around to shop and dine.
